Three Cheers for Youth Volunteers!

Center for Student Missions (CSM), based in Oakland, has partnered with AgeSong of San Francisco to offer intergenerational opportunities to their youth and our elders.   Over the summer, once a week groups of students came and visited AgeSong from far off places such as Colorado, Oregon, Nevada, Washington State, Utah, and more. While here, the students join us for activities such as games, poetry writing, book reading, card making, root beer float parties and of course our end of the summer Intergenerational Bingo Bash.  Students especially enjoyed taking part in our men’s and women’s groups, during which our elders were able to share stories from their own youth, offering our young visitors words of advice and encouragement.

The Center for Student Missions is a faith based program that provides weeklong excursions to San Francisco to various youth groups during which the students partake in a wide variety of service opportunities.  Students volunteer all over San Francisco in such places as the Salvation Army, the Food Bank, Project Open Hand and, of course, AgeSong, to gain experience in community service.  Center for Student Missions is a national organization with branches in numerous big cities including Chicago, New York, Washing DC, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and many others. We love having the students youthful energy here!!  During all their visits laughter and smiles are plentiful, proving that though some of us may be young and others older we can always find a place to meet in the middle!
