On Wednesday, July 11, a group of 23 to 25 Japanese caregivers are visiting AgeSong at Bayside Park.
This is the first trip to America for all of these students and they are looking forward to learning about how we provide care to our elders here in America. The caregivers themselves are striving to strike a balance between the hard work and the recognition that compassionate care begins with yourself.
The visit is through SunLife, an organization that has two dozen facilities with satellite centers in Japan and over 1,300 + employees, founded by Dr. Teruhisa Mokuno. Dr. Mokuno travels the world to encourage the spread of quality care for the elderly. He has developed international alliances with universities in foreign countries including Australia, Sweden, New Zealand and the U.S. In the U.S., he has worked closely with the NationalAsian Pacific Center on Aging and has developed “Elder Workshop Programs” in partnership with John F. Kennedy University. Dr. Mokuno’s wife is also an active volunteer for the elderly and is one of the most active social dance performers in Nagoya.
Dr. Mokuno’s Mission:
- Support clients so that they can spend life with dignity and well-being, developing their remained ability
- Respect clients decisions and support individual life style
- Develop staff as those who can change by themselves, with joy and pride over their work
- Renovate organization/management continually based on compliance
