The vision of helping elders with all kinds of needs and desires is what drives my participation with CEI.
Nader Shabahangi
A Founding board member of the Fund for Elders’ Independence (FEI), Nader Shabhangi, PhD, is the CEO and co-founder, with his brothers, of AgeSong, an assisted living community for seniors with six locations in San Francisco and East Bay.
Shabahangi says,
The vision of helping elders with all kinds of needs and desires is what drives my participation with CEI. They provide an important service for those elders who do not need 24 hour community care as found in assisted living and/or who might not have the resources to live in a community setting. CEI’s vision is to help elders in any which way they can and we need more groups and people with such passion to care for elders.
An author and licensed psychotherapist, Shabahangi creates programs with the purpose of caring more comprehensively for the elderly. He teaches ‘eldership’ workshops in Europe and the United States that explore the difference between getting ‘old’ and growing into the role of an elder. Nader earned his doctorate at Stanford University and utilizes psychotherapy interns in his senior living programs.
The Center for Elders’ Independence (CEI) is a non-profit Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) health plan for seniors age 55 and older who prefer not to move into a nursing home but whose health problems make it impossible for them to stay at home without the help of caregivers. Older adults can maintain their independence, dignity and quality of life because CEI provides all medical care (24 hours-a-day), a PACE Day Center, home care services and transportation so they do not need to move to a nursing home.
The organization is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving frail seniors in the East Bay since 1992. Center for Elders’ Independence is the premier provider of community-based, long-term care in the East Bay. The organization provides a creative team environment where member’s quality of life is raised to the highest possible level.
