Building Community by Consensus

  1. The  “ruling” majority needs more relationship to the “ruled” minority (buy-in).
  2. Feelings are important in consensus development (dialogue).

These are just two statements on how to build community, based on the Deep Democracy Institute paradigm. I saw these concepts applied recently in an elder community event at AgeSong, Bayside Park led by AgeSong CEO Nader Shabahangi and his colleague, Bill Say, Director, Deep Democracy Institute SF.  The interaction was empowering for participants, most of whom are in their later years.

After observing the effectiveness of this program with elders, I want to learn more – for my own interactions with others.
